The volunteers belonging to the BOINC.Italy group have organized a challenge on this project, from March 16 at 12:00 UTC up to March 23 at 12:00 UTC.

Have a look at the challenge banner here: https://www.boincitaly.org/media/kunena/attachments/6725/TN-GridCh.jpg and the boincstats announcement/chat page: https://www.boincstats.com/stats/challenge/team/chat/1072

I run the project all the time anyway, so there is not much more to boost. But if they really want a boost, they just need to get listed in the BOINC Manager.

I know, they do not want to exceed their server capacity and run dry, but that is a problem for the crunchers. They will merely complain about it. But it would help the science, would it not?

This challenge will be a server stress test :)

I still think we should list the project in boinc.

I think there is no point to keep this as a "low profile" crunching project.

We all understand server has limited resources but it was added 2000 more WU to the queue as of last challenge and it is always full.

By not doing this, it will take ages and ages...

I agree with you. Other considerations

Since last challenge admin has raised the queue from 9000 to 10000.
In preparation for this next challenge he will gradually increase work generator load.

I think this challenge could be a good test to validate future addition to boinc client

So high participation could be good

There won't be high participation because there will be no new user crunching "ever".

We are same users always as this is listed nowhere

This project seems stable and fine, it should be listed.

Here some indication from BAM F.A.Q

How does a team join a team challenge? The founder of a team can enter a team into a challenge. The team founder (here on BOINCstats) is the person who is founder of the team in most projects. To check who is the team founder, find your team on the profile pages and go to the profile. The founder is listed on the team profile page. The team founder has a extra section in his BAM! menu (Team founder) and in that section he will find the Challenges. Once there everything is self explanatory. The team founder is assigned by an automated process, he can't be set manually! If your team has a separate admin account then create a BAM! account for this admin as you would for a normal user (so same email and password). Include all projects but do not attach hosts to it or use any of the managing functions other than the team functions. It will not link to any stats, only to the team it is a member of and it will show as founder, so your team can participate in challenges. Gathering/updating user information including founder status is done once a week during the night from Saturday to Sunday! Once a week because it's stressing the project servers.

That could be fun. It looks like they are doing 10,500 seconds on Win10.
On my Ryzen 2700, I am doing about 13,500 seconds on Ubuntu 18.04.

Hi all,

could someone point me to what specific biology/medicine we will be crunching? A project webpage, grant abstract or similar?

Many thanks,
Andrew

You can find more details in the "science status" page
http://gene.disi.unitn.it/test/gene_science.php
Actually the projeft is on two broad families of human pathologies: Motor Neuron Diseases and Hematopoietic Tumors.

Thank you for your awesome job, it's great to be able to help this project!
I'm pretty sure that advertising more about what you do would bring much more people on this project!

We are actually expanding a lot of human genes, prioritizing them according to the scientists' interests. Among them this one (ACE2) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gene/59272 which is closely related to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Can we recognize these? Something like _covid_ wus?

The workunits contain the ACE2 string (not so many, around 800)
