The credit system that we use right now in this project is the Boinc default 'Credit-New' system, which is strongly sponsored by the Boinc development staff itself and is supposed to grant the same credits among different projects, in a fair way. I didn't check it by myself but we should grant more or less the same credit granted by seti@home standard cpu applications.

However, these numbers are really low compared with other projects in the world.

I don't want to change the way we calculate credits, it's somewhat too complicated for this project (tasks are of variable length and we don't know in advance how long will it take to finish a job).

Therefore I'm thinking to use the standard system, then to multiply the credit calculated this way by a 'correction' factor. (2x, 3x, 150x ?)

What do you think about this? Suggestions and everything else are welcome.

Little statistic
Seconds Points Points/H
6000 44 26,4
9200 69 27
10100 77 27,4
8900 67 27,4
12600 58 16,5
12700 58 16,5
8800 60 24,5

Beyond some deviations (16 points for 3,5 cpu hours), the point's system seems to be at "rosetta@home level".
Other projects, like Pogs, give 60 points/h or use fixed points per wu..

The standard boinc 'credit new' system is supposed to work well after collecting some statistics about hosts, architectures and workunits. This fact will probably explain the differences you noticed.

We decided not to give a fixed credit for wu, they are of variable length and it would be too complicated. As a reference I use a Intel Core i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz running Linux x64 and the TRP sieve subproject of Primegrid.

I have the following (average) results:

Project seconds h:m:s Granted hours Credit/hour Credit/day All Cores TRP (Sieve) 1,481.64 00:24:42 120.14 0.41 291.91 7,005.80 28,023.21 Gene Network 3,279.94 00:54:40 41.86 0.91 45.94 1,102.55 4,410.22

This will be the starting point of the credit adjustments we will do (seems that a 4x or 5x correction will be fair)

I have tried some others boinc projects. (climate, moo)
It seems to me also that gene@home give less credits.
