One Windows-based WU completed and validated (Win7 Pro machine running the sse2 application); four others completed and waiting for validation.

Early indications are promising ...

Thanks and cheers!

... now I am getting errors that the workunits are committed to another platforms, maybe due to the newest standard application change.

I think that particular problem has now been resolved - refer to valterc's response to the thread at http://gene.disi.unitn.it/test/forum_thread.php?id=155.

I was getting that problem myself but have just now been able to download new WUs again so, if you're inclined, it might be worth your while to try agin with the latest official version (v0.11) of the application and see what success you have.

If you catch one of those workunits and have some kind of problem, please let me know.

I've had no problems with the eleven that recently turned up in my queue and which I selected to turn around immediately.

In comparison to the "ecm" units:
- the "dream5" WUs complete in around 6 to 7 mins (although one finished in 2 mins!) vs. 30 to 32mins for the "ecm" WUs
- the output file size is just over 1MB vs. approx. 350Kb for the "ecm" WUs

This is on a Win7 machine running an i7 6900K CPU and using the FMA version of Daniel's latest optimised application.

Well, I only doubled the size of the workunits (starting at 2016-12-30, 100 'blocks' instead of 50)

And might we be see another doubling of the 'production' WUs to 200 'blocks' (in the not too distant future) given that Daniel has enabled us, once again, to process twice as many WUs than we were doing with the last release of his optimised app?

Perhaps I shouldn't be putting such ideas into your head! ;-)

This CPU supports up to SSE4.1, so AVX and FMA apps will not work there. You can check features supported by CPU using CPU-Z.

Daniel,

Ah, yes, I see that now - it didn't occur to me that there might be a technology gap! It should, however, work on my larger machine with the i7 6900K CPU so I'll run down the WU cache there and see what happens.

Cheers

Hmm,

I tried the updated fma v1.1 version on my quad core Q9550-based (Windows 7 build) machine and it threw up immediate computation errors against all the WUs it tried to process. Needless to say, I terminated the BONIC session as soon as I could.

The Stderr output file for all seven of the errored WUs shows the same message:
<core_client_version>7.6.33</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<message>
(unknown error) - exit code -1073741795 (0xc000001d)
</message>
]]>
which, I'm afraid, means nothing to me (ah, Vienna), but may help someone to identify the problem.

For now, I'm sticking with the sse2 version on both of my machines which is halving WU processing times on both machines ... and I can't complain too much about that.

Sorry, this probably a really daft question but, as I have little experience of "going backwards" from an optimised application to an official one ... how does one go about downloading this new official version if one is already using Daniel's optimised version?

I know that'll I'll need to disable the app_info.xml file I created to allow me to use his version. If I do that, and run "update" in the BOINC manager, will it automatically try to download the new "official" version?

Update: And so I tried shutting down BOINC Manager and restarting it to get the updated application. That was successful, but all the cached WUs were deleted but don't appear as errors in my profile so I have a large number of "ghost" WUs which will error out when they fail to complete within the deadline.

Hey ho
Dave
