How about gene-level parallelism? Basically 1 work-unit generator per gene ? Would it work ?

Do you have spare server capacity to generate in parallel like that ?

How difficult is it to build parallel version of the work generator?

What would it take to generate work units faster? New software? More CPU cores? Faster cores?
Amount of available work units is pretty low for both TN-GRID and Rosetta projects.

Stuck for 2 days already

Last work unit stuck for a day

I think the last few units got "stuck", and maybe if it doesn't finish by tomorrow; improve parallelisation by re-destributing remaining work units to several more BOINC workers ? (status: 88848 / 88856 completed; 8 more to go)

Can you accelerate "gene_work_generator" anyhow ?

The amount of tasks up for grabs is always zero, meaning that people have more workers than your TN-GRID servers can generate.

This is especially important now, where WCG project is down and Rosetta is out-of-work-units (again).

One "gene" / "isoform" is how many work units ?
Also to collect the last few days of results, I recommend to up the parallel sending of work units from 2 to 3 workers, reducing the amount of stale work units, that get stuck on unresponsive hosts.

Absolutely possible, and the difference between Linux and Windows would be even more extreme on multi core processors, such as 64-core AMD Threadripper 3990X, where Linux is over twice as fast as Windows on multiple benchmarks.

Windows kernel sucks at anything over 8 cores, frankly.
32) Message boards : Number crunching : Why I get different tasks for SSE2 and for AVX platform ? (Message 2505)

I suggest to download ALL 3 binaries, and a mini-benchmark (mini workload for a few minutes of your actual application). Then use whatever binary that delivers the best results.

Here I see some tasks based on SSE, others on AVX. Why this is so ?

My processors are all new ("Haswell" or newer), support SSE4.x, AVX2, and FMA.

>which cpu are you thinking about?

Dual Xeon E5 2680 v4 ("Broadwell") and Dual Xeon Platinum 8176 ("Skylake"). Lots of them.
(I'm getting those on the cheap...)

Hi all!
Planning to deploy a Linux cluster on TN-Grid, BOINC, and other projects, the equivalent of a super-computer!

Stay tuned ! About 4000 cores coming soon ;)

What do you crunch on? Which hardware and which projects?
