Hello,
Sorry for the question ... but I see no performance difference between AVX and FMA on an i7 4770K HT OFF / W7 Ultimate. Do you have any recommendation or is this normal ?
(Primegrid LLR WU's are using FMA3 I think, and it makes the CPU running at his highest perf.)
Thank You.
Philippe

No need for an answer. I saw your benchmark tests.

You should see some difference, as in benchmark results above. Did you try to run different app versions manually on test data, or you ran them on BOINC tasks? If the latter, please keep in mind that they wary in length, some of them complete faster some slower.

And one important note for 32-bit Windows apps: you need at least Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 if you want to use AVX and FMA versions. On Windows XP you will be able to run SSE and non-SIMD versions only. Here is list of OSes which supports AVX: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Vector_Extensions#Operating_system_support.

Hello Daniel,

Thank you for your answer.

Machine ID = ID: 462 : Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bits - i7 4770K - HT ON - 24 Go RAM ...

I am used to run AVX on projects such as Asteroids@Home, and FMA3 on Primegrid.

Have installed the TN Grid FMA optimization package last night, and running times are > 10 % longer than AVX ... Credits are 1% up to 5% higher too, but I don't know if these are new WU's ?

=> I will reinstall the AVX optimization.

Hereafter the details of some wu's processed lately :

AVX :

Hello,

Thank you, it's running well now.

But api_version needed to be modified to the one I am running.

Best

Philippe

Hello,

In order to download optimzed WU's, should the "api_version" be updated to the one running on each computer ?

Have tried today, but all WU's went ended in error after 1 sec.

Is the app_info.xml sufficient or is there another the file to add / update ?

Is it possible to have a kind of "automatic" selection of the adequate WU's ? ie like Asteroids@Home (sse2/sse3/AVX - Please no FMA3 :) )

Thank You

Philippe

NB 64 WU's still reported as running but not on my computer anylonger :/

NB : RE : the page to log in : http://gene.disi.unitn.it/test/home.php

The word "test" might be removed if you are not running BETA WU's anylonger.
Might be worth to add an option to run the "test" application i/o naming the project xxx text xxx.

Why ? Some teams / users don't crunch on test applications / projects, and these projects are not included in challenges such as the Formula Boinc.

Users in last 24 hours: 41

Is this enough??

No, it isn't ... We surely need more power. Our ongoing project (and we have more in the queue) will end in about 5-6 years, at the current pace. We need to upgrade the system (this is not so easy). In the meantime I can put the invitation code on the front page of the website (like SRBase). I have to check this issue with the other members of the team.

Hello ! Badges are also a great "MOTIVATION TOOL" :) There are a lot of "Badges Hunters" within the BOINC Community ;)

Another issue : When you try to attach the project to a new crunchbox, the message "the project is not accepting new user" can greatly reduce your computing power. (no information at all about the invitation code or the creation of an account via the website.)

=> 2 "easy" solutions to incrase your crunching power : Project badges (not based on the ranking but on the credits) + easy attachment to the project.

Best,
Phil1966

it seems / looks like admins and/or scientists don't care about increasing their project's computing power :/ ???

Hello,

Don't you think it's time to remove the "Invitation Code" ?
You would have a lot more crunchers I think.

I am sure if you ask for help on GPUGRID's or POEM's forum, some crunchers might help you. Alternatively, post a message on the "big teams" forum. But the first step might be to open the project to all participânts. (If not already done ?)
Another idea might be to contact the University of Luxembourg. They have a brand new BIOTECH dept. http://wwwfr.uni.lu/lcsb/contact

Hello !
RE : p23 of http://gene.disi.unitn.it/test/documents/Gene@Home.@BF15.pdf
Are you planning to develop a GPU app ?
If yes, I am looking forward to try it :)
Thank You

Hi Valterc,

Not cool for you this DB loss.

Your message was posted on our forum by our temate Lic.

I will move a CPU on TN Grid in order to help you recovering all lost datas faster.

Best,

Phil1966
