That would alert current BOINCers, sure, but the real point is to get more BOINCers into the mix. I've found that most people that see "something odd" running on my computers, ask me about it, and once explained, they are keen to get going themselves.

I tend to trawl the list at boincstats.com every few months to see if any new projects have arisen. The BOINC pages say "about 30" projects to choose from, but boincstats lists 50 actives.

Some projects probably don't want to be listed for various reasons. This project can only create tasks so fast.

There's room enough for increasing the performance.
We always have around 7K tasks ready to be sent so problem is not there but (maybe) in the reception part ( I don't think so, because capacity to send must be similar to the receiving capacity (otherwise some of the queue could grown ad infinitum ).
We are less than 300 users a day sending results.
It should not be a problem to double this number, starting by listing the project in Boinc by only that step, we could get lots of them, even if they crunch a dozen tasks and forget about boinc, they are valid anyway...
What do you think about it?

... may be of interest in this respect. Go for it, most crunchers have a list of projects they support, if one or two only supply a couple of workunits a week, well, no harm done is there.

Is there a direct link to this paper, without having to give money to the IEEE to read it?

Hi, I was just wondering what science we're working on at present, and if there's a particular focus for the upcoming challenge. If there's a link/reference/grant abstract online somewhere, could someone point me to it please?
Thanks, Andrew

I found two links to articles with the same title. Check if either of them leads to what you want.

None of those links as far as I can tell can allow you to read the articles without paying for an account to access them.
